Anniversary party
They came from as far north as Nethanya and as far south as Jerusalem, new and veteran members of ESCA to celebrate our Silver anniversary. Besides the 50+ members in attendance we were graced with a visit by Mayor Tzvi Tzilker and by volunteer co-ordinator Miryam Sassoon. After singing an updated version of the ESCA song, led by Anita, a humorous skit was presented by Chana, Rebecca and Anita demonstrating what an "ESCA hotline" might be like (if we had one!).
Food and drink and lots of chattering, another song and presentation of awards of appreciation to Stan for his excellence as press liason and to Anita for her devotion. Rebecca, who doubled as marketing representative to sell members t-shirts if they hadn't yet gotten one, got a prize for having won the SILVER ANNIVERSARY logo contest. Esther and Herbert Cohn won a meal for two at "Zohara" in the draw for a door prize. And the "jewel in the crown" was Susan's entertaining and minutely planned and executed TRIVIA QUIZ, which held everyone's attention until the last moment when one team emerged victorious and received a prize. All agree that the quiz was great, thanks to Susan's exhaustive efforts. THANKS TO ALL who came early to decorate and stayed afterwards to clean up. We want to do it again already!

The ESCA Epicurean
We're back with another scrumptious recipe. This exquisitely easy one is contributed by Anita, taken from a lovely (Hebrew) cookbook called "Cooking with Four Ingredients" by Michal Levy-Alhalel and Danny Lerner. Sometimes they sneak in a fifth ingredient, but the recipes are simple, quick and tasty:
(Red) Onion Quiche
(note: the recipe calls for red onions, but plain white ones work just as well)
Ingredients:
5 (red) onions, thinly sliced
1 1/2 containers (375 mls) sweet cream
4 eggs
1/2 package (about 200 grs) "leaf dough" (batzek aleem) thawed out
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 190 degrees C. Saute the onions on a high flame in a tablespoon of oil until slightly golden.
Remove from pan and cool in the fridge (to prevent the dough from melting away beneath it later).
Beat the eggs and cream in a bowl and add some salt and pepper to taste. Line a 24-26 cm. baking pan with the defrosted dough to a thickness of about 3 mm., overlapping the sides a little.
Arrange the onions on the dough and pour on the cream-eggs mixture.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until it gets brown and firm in the center. Serves 6-8.
For additional flavor: Add some dry or fresh thyme leaves to the eggs-cream mixture before pouring over the onions.
ENJOY!

Do you have anything that a new family on the block could use on their first night in the country?
Newcomers to Beit Canada Absorption Center don't get basic things they need for the first few days - electric water kettle, blankets, cutlery - things they haven't unpacked yet. Paulina at Beit Canada is putting things together for them. Call her at 08-8531392 and let her know what you can give (NOT CLOTHES).

A man goes to a psychiatrist. The doctor says "You're crazy" The man says "I want a second opinion!" "Okay, you're ugly too!"
But seriously, folks, this could be IMPORTANT! If you are ever, God forbid, sick and want a second opinion, your health clinic most likely can provide it. Be sure to ask at the desk if they provide this service. Most insurance funds cover the cost of obtaining a second opinion from an outside expert.
